Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen and South Korean rapper PSY make international love on "Call Me Gangnam"
A mashup of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" and PSY's "Gangnam Style" should be powerful enough to strip enough serotonin from your brain to fill Lake Michigan. The two songs are the viral hits of late-summer 2012. A true combination of their awesome powers could generate a supersong capable of staying in your head until No Direction reach retirement age. But alas, we have "Call Me Gangam." The track has been streamed more than 505,696 times since its upload to SoundCloud five days ago — a drop in the bucket compared with the Schoolboy Records labelmates' original viral hits, which together have topped 483 million views on YouTube.
Jepsen's song of summer gets the meat of the track, with the South Korean rapper getting a few verses in the instrumental breaks. Mostly he's relegated to a bubbling "Op, op, op, op, oppa Gangnam style!" at the corners. Sometimes it's best not to mess with (pop) perfection.
