Bumbershoot ’08: Day One Highlights

The opening day of the 38th annual Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival was a pleasant reminder of just why this event is in a league all its own. The leisurely, family-friendly atmosphere, unrivaled food selection (yum!), and vast diversity of installation and performance art all stood out — but nothing punctuated this Seattle extravaganza like the wildly eclectic musical lineup.

From seasoned headliners to up-and-coming locals and everything in between, the bill had something to offer everyone — and there was plenty to enjoy. Check out our day one montage below, including live video snippets of punk vets the Girls, alt-folk songstress Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, riotous Pittsburgh stalwarts Anti-Flag, and — most notably — SPIN cover boy Beck. Be sure to check back to SPIN.com through the weekend for more highlights from Bumbershoot, and all next week for more concert videos plus artist blogs from the likes of Paramore and Dan Deacon.
