Watch Broken Bells Unveil ‘The Changing Lights’ for ‘Take Away Show’

For months now, Broken Bells have been teasing their upcoming second album with snippets of a sci-fi short film starring Kate Mara and Anton Yelchin. But for their latest visual, the duo of Danger Mouse and James Mercer have taken a much more grounded approach, teaming up with La Blogothèque for a pair of “Take Away Show” clips. Filmed in a Paris piano shop, the black-and-white videos catch Broken Bells in the midst of an intimate performance.

Above you’ll find a rendition of “The Changing Lights,” a new song featured on the forthcoming After the Disco, out February 4 via Columbia. It may be the lack of space-age effects and retro-future synths (Danger Mouse mans piano while Mercer strums an acoustic guitar), but “The Changing Lights” feels more akin to the brainy pop of Mercer’s main project, the Shins, rather than the slick grooves explored by Broken Bells as of late (see “Holding on for Life” and “After the Disco”).

Scroll down to see a delicate version of “October,” a 2010 single that first appeared on Broken Bells’ self-titled debut album.
