Brian Jonestown Massacre Gets Ripped Off

Ah, Anton Newcombe. The floppy haired anti-star of the documentary Dig! is always at the center of drama, but this time it’s not his fault. Before a gig at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC, the Brian Jonestown Massacre had all of their equipment stolen from a van and rented trailer that they had parked in Brooklyn on September 19, says the blogmaster Brooklynvegan.com. Among the items stolen were a Fender Bassman 1960s blackface head, unique not only for its sound, but also the fact the “B” is blackened out so that it reads “assman.” Blogosphere pundits had no sympathy: “Karma has come to collect,” read one post on Brooklynvegan.

Despite the stolen gear, Anton and company did manage to show up for their scheduled gig at the small NYC venue Pianos on last night, but in true Massacre fashion, ended up leaving the stage before completing a song. That’s our boy.
