Mark your calendars, for officials have unveiled the dates for the seventh annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival! Concertgoers seeking an unparalleled, eclectic collection of musical acts, a unique camping experience, and much, muchmore, can head down to the sprawling, lush 700-acre festival groundsoutside Manchester, TN June 12-15. And the 2008 installment is shapingup to be the best yet as officials continue striving towards excellencein entertainment and service.
“It’s rewarding to see how thefestival has matured in all aspects from production to musicprogramming,” said Rick Farman of Superfly, the festival’s producer.”But what we are just as excited about as producers are the specialattractions we have created such as the Cinema, Comedy Theatre,Somethin’ Else Jazz Club, Planet Roo, and the new elements we arecreating for this coming year. We believe that it’s these ingredientsthat make being at an around-the-clock festival so unique and special.”
Deerhunter’s Cox to Tour Atlas Sound
Sure, Bradford Cox‘s film-worthy Atlanta-bred band Deerhunter is facing Atlas Sound‘s debut Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel Feb. 19, Cox has already plotted his return to the road in 2008 — dude lovestouring. The outing, kicking off the day of the album’s release with ahometown show, will then see Cox hit cities nationwide fromPhiladelphia to Seattle, before capping in Los Angeles March 11. Hot Chip Plot Intimate U.S. Shows
In celebration of Hot Chip‘s forthcoming album Made in the Dark, the follow up to 2006’s The Warning,slated to arrive in the U.S. Feb. 5 via DFA/Astralwerks, the Britelectro-nerds have unveiled two, yes, only two, stateside shows. Butthe performances, for the lucky fans that can make it, will be special,intimate gigs previewing the new record just days before its release.As expected, fans in New York and Los Angeles are in luck this timearound, but the remainder of the Red, White, and Blue has no grounds tofret, for Hot Chip plan to return for a full U.S. tour in April. Antony Hegarty Details Forthcoming LP
In a recent interview with HARP magazine — available to read here — Antony Hegarty, frontman and namesake of Antony and the Johnsons, has revealed details for The Crying Light, the project’s forthcoming album and follow up to I Am a Bird Now, which he states will arrive this coming spring via Secretly Canadian.
Hegarty,who recorded some 25 songs for the effort, including tracks such as”Her Eyes Underneath the Ground,” “Give My Name,” and “Everglade,” saidmany of the tunes “are just piano songs,” though “a little moreexperimental structurally… I’m hoping to weave things together so itwill be a little more of a collage of songs.”
Continuing,Hegarty said the album is “about landscape and the future. I guess I’mthinking about those things a lot — about the natural landscape of theworld and the landscape inside each person. On my last record,everything was sort of sad and redemptive. And this one, it’s moreextreme in both directions. Some of the songs are much more joyful, andsome of the songs are much less redemptive. And then some of the songsare more thoughtful — more philosophical. I think this record is justabout sitting with things.” [Via Pitchfork]
