Bon Iver’s Big Year Continues With ‘SNL’ Booking

Justin Vernon’s high-profile February just got another big booking: The bearded Wisconsin singer-songwriter with the Kanye-approved falsetto will appear on Saturday Night Live February 4 with a nine-piece band. Eight days later, he’ll be in L.A. for the Grammy Awards, where he’s up for four trophies, including Song and Record of the Year and Best New Artist.

Bon Iver’s self-titled sophomore album came out months ago, but the booking is still timely, and not only because of the Grammys. Bon Iver got the deluxe reissue treatment late last year, adding a short film to go with each of its 10 tracks. Read SPIN’s Bon Iver cover story from July.

When not demonstrating his workout routine, Vernon has also been busy booking festival dates. Bon Iver is set to play the main stage at Coachella on April 14 and April 21, as part of the Saturday lineup headlined by Radiohead.

Vernon and his eight accompanists join an eclectic calendar of SNL musical guests. Recent weeks have brought performances from Robyn, Kelly Clarkson, Michael Bublé, and Maroon 5. Online phenom Lana Del Rey is set to appear this Saturday night, and Zooey Deschanel will host February 11 with musical guest Karmin. Channing Tatum is slated to host Bon Iver’s episode.
