My, we’ve come a long way from “Bonny Bear.” Both of Bon Iver’s studio albums (2008’s For Emma, Forever Ago and 2011’s Bon Iver) have gone gold in the same week, according to a statement released by record label Jagjaguwar today (January 23). This double 500,000-sales certification is the latest achievement for Justin Vernon’s folk-art pet project, which has received steadily visible acclaim since he emerged from that now-legendary Wisconsin cabin; his debut placed on SPIN’s 40 Best Albums of 2008 list; he graced the cover of SPIN’s “Success Issue” in 2011; Bon Iver’s sophomore LP debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts and later landed in the top 15 on SPIN’s 50 Best Albums of 2011 list; Vernon went to the 2012 Grammys with SPIN on his arm; and he even picked up two awards that night — Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album. “We are, quite simply, very proud,” reads the announcement. “Bon Iver’s rise is exceptional, a journey unlike any other.”
