Bob Dylan, Jeff Tweedy, and Jim James Expertly Lift ‘The Weight’ From the Band

Bob Dylan covers the weight

A week after tourmates Bob Dylan, Jeff Tweedy, and Jim James finally united for the first time on stage to perform the old folk song “Twelve Gates to the City” during their AmericanaramA tour. Apparently pleased with the results, the trio came together again last night (July 24) in Virginia Beach to cover the Band’s classic “The Weight.” The video above is far from great, but the sound quality makes up for that.

Dylan’s longtime association with the Band — they actually got their name while backing him during his Blonde on Blonde era — adds an extra level of enjoyment to the performance, with Tweedy and James showing more enthusiasm than they did when they joined the Bard last time around The tour only has seven dates left after picking up again on July 26 in Hoboken.
