Blood Orange Walks Away From Love in ‘You’re Not Good Enough’ Video

Blood Orange 'You're Not Good Enough' Lyric Video

When he’s not busy radically reinventing the works of Drake, Phoenix, and Kindness, or writing songs for Solange, Sky Ferreira, and Britney Spears, Devonté Hynes makes ethereal polyglot soul music under the handle Blood Orange. His second album under that handle is dubbed Cupid Deluxe and includes contributions by members of Dirty Projectors, Kindness, and Chairlift (not to mention Despot, Clams Casino, and others). We’ve heard the sumptuous Caroline Polachek-assisted “Chamakay” and now there’s a lyric video for “You’re Not Good Enough,” seen above. The new song features warm synth textures and bass-lines, breathy guy-girl vocals, and one very mellow guitar solo. The message, however, is less chill: “I never was in love / You know that you were never good enough.” Meanwhile, the “lyrics” that run concurrently switch over to subtext instead, directly addressing the subject of the song. Cupid Deluxe is out November 18 on Domino.
