Guess that this is growing up: Blink-182 have left their label Interscope Records. Singing guitarist Tom DeLonge announced the split on Twitter yesterday (via NME), writing, "Freedom!! Blink as of today, is now an independent Artist!!!!!" He included the inevitable link to a movie still of Mel Gibson in Braveheart.

Blink's peak-era '90s albums came out on now-defunct label MCA Records. They signed with Interscope (and Universal Music Group) subsidiary Geffen starting with 2003's self-titled album, and released last year's comeback album Neighborhoods via Interscope and Geffen spinoff DGC.

NME reports that the band will head into the studio in February 2013 to record their seventh album. DeLonge's partner-in-Blink-vocals Mark Hoppus has said the band began writing the upcoming record to make up for a summer that he feels "was kind of devoid of a lot of great music." Check out our recommendations to the guy here, because it was actually a pretty great summer for music in our book. They make take our lives, but they'll never take all the small things...
