Fans upset by Muse's dubsteppy direction on their forthcoming sixth studio record,The 2nd Law, can go ahead and blame a Forbes list infiltrator and SPIN cover star for the change in direction: one Mister Sonny Moore.

"We went to see Skrillex in Camden around October," drummer Dom Howard told NME as Muse revealed their muse. "We went, 'Fuck, it's so heavy,' loved it. I was like a full metal gig, they had circles of death, people were moshing, I hadn't seen a reaction like that to electronic music before. We took inspiration and came up with [the song] 'The 2nd Law: Unsustainable.'"

You can't read about dubstep, by the way, without checking out SPIN's 30 Greatest Dubstep Songs of All Time.

Singer Matt Bellamy added his thoughts about the "moshpit [moving] from guitars and [going] towards the laptop" to the conversation, reiterating, as previously reported, that the one — just one, everyone, "maybe two" — dubsteppy track, which we now know is "The 2nd Law: Unsustainable," was constructed with analog instruments only: "We wanted to ask, 'Can rock bands compete with what these guys are doing?'"

Other 2nd Law elements, for worried Skrillex skeptics, include a "jazzy brass number" and a few "quite minimal" tracks.

The album is due September 17, about a month and a half after the gang's five-minute Olympics theme opens the games with classic Muse epicness in London this Friday. Watch that video, for "Survival," below:
