Before the Black Lips set sail on the S.S. Coachella, the Atlanta foursome embarked on a tour of the Middle East, and Noisey tagged along with a camera crew to capture the SPIN cover stars' stops in Iraq, Dubai, and Egypt. Vice's music imprint has since posted a nine-minute mini-documentary of the fall 2012 excursion, which you can watch up above. See the band eat kebab, go skiing in a shopping mall, visit the pyramids, and dodge traffic in Tahrir Square. "We're adventurists," Black Lips drummer Joe Bradley says during the video. "We want to be surrounded by our friends and go to a region we don't know much about and hopefully bring back a fresh perspective."
A feature-length doc based on the Black Lips' time in the Middle East is in the works, courtesy filmmaker Bill Cody. The project has a page on fundraising site Indiegogo, which requests money to pay for the editing process, sound mixing, and more. As of this writing, the movie has raised $1,895 of its $15,000 goal, with 38 hours left until deadline. Watch the film's donation-requesting trailer below, followed by Black Lips' U.S. tour dates.
