Billie Joe Cast in 'Idiot,' Foos Add Dates + More

  • Billie Joe Armstrong has been confirmed to reprise his Broadway role in the movie adaptation of Green Day's American Idiot, set to be directed by Michael Mayer and produced by Tom Hanks' Playtone Productions. Back in January, Mayer, who helmed the Broadway production, hinted that Armstrong would be cast in the part of St. Jimmy: "I think it's a no-brainer," he said. The movie is slated to open in 2013.   • Foo Fighters have added eight dates to their Fall arena tour, which kicks off September 14 in St. Paul, MN and wraps up on November 14 in Newark, NJ.   • As he puts the final touches on Mastodon's fall album, Brent Hinds has revealed he's cooking up a side-project featuring ex-Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery, Dillinger Escape Plan's Ben Weinman, and ex-Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen. Scheduling conflicts have prevented the group from recording, but Hinds is optimistic about the project. "We tried to get together and do an album but there's no time," he says.
