Drake and Kendrick Lamar Reign at BET Awards Packed With Lively Performances

Drake

Drake and Kendrick Lamar tied for the most wins at last night’s BET Awards. Drake was nominated for the most awards, and the Take Care rapper-singer ended up carrying home three: video of the year and viewers’ choice for “Started From the Bottom,” plus best collaboration with A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar on Rocky’s “Fuckin’ Problems.” The g.o.o.d. kid, m.A.A.d. City rapper Lamar also nabbed three trophies, including best male hip-hop artist and best new artists.

Who won the awards was almost secondary to the performances, which were many and memorable. Taking the stage at the ceremony, held at the Nokia Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles and broadcast on BET, were a long list of singers and rappers: Lamar, Miguel, Janelle Monáe, Erykah Badu, R. Kelly, Nicki Minaj, Ciara, Schoolboy Q, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, Robin Thicke, Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, and more. The Gap Band’s Charlie Wilson won a lifetime achievement award, and his charismatic presence during a tribute performance was a definite highlight.
