Belle & Sebastian Get Intimate in ‘Nobody’s Empire’ Video

'Nobody's Empire'

Belle & Sebastian have a new video their single “Nobody’s Empire,” a song frontman Stuart Murdoch claims is the “most personal I’ve ever written.” The visuals follow in that same vein, featuring actress and album cover model Tamzin Merchant — whom some anglophiles might recognize as the doomed Queen Catherine Howard on Starz’s The Tudors — poignantly lip-synching Murdoch’s lyrics, which tell the story of his childhood health problems.

Combining contemporary footage from the album’s cover shoot, “Nobody’s Empire” also utilizes grainy clips sent from B&S’ fanbase, as well as archival footage from the Scottish Screen Archive at the National Library Of Scotland and the Prelinger Archives. Check the video above, and look out for Girls In Peacetime Want to Dance on January 20.
