Beck Dusts Off Acoustic Guitar (and Bob Dylan) for Handful of Shows

Beck

Beck has recently been writing songs for other people to play and playing songs written by other people. Now he’s taking his acoustic guitar on the road, and we can only hope he plays a few songs of his own.

The Odelay legend has previously been revealed as one of the performers at this year’s Newport Folk Festival, held July 26 to 28, and now he has announced a handful of additional dates: some acoustic, some full-band and electric. (Despite what was originally posted on Beck’s website, none of the dates are solo.)

Beck’s upcoming gigs range from Santa Cruz, California, next month to an outdoor show at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park in early August. Notably, Beck has signed on for the Americanarama Festival’s July 27 stop at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York, where he will be playing with Bob Dylan and Wilco, plus Ryan Bingham (who won a Oscar a few years ago for his song from the country drama Crazy Heart).

Last November, Beck said in an interview he was still working on what would probably be a “standard format” album to follow his recent Song Reader sheet-music project. He said the album would likely include songs he’d mainly worked on in 2008. So who knows, maybe some of that material will finally see the light in the coming months.
