Beck and Charlotte Gainsbourg’s Surreal Video

charlotte-gainsbourg.jpg

Beck’s weird side is rubbing off on French pop royalty Charlotte Gainsbourg.

First the SoCal rebel helped divert the Parisian from the string-laden singer/songwriter style of her last album, 5:55 — which Beck’s father helped orchestrate — towards the more experimental sound of her January release, IRM.

Now he’s going visual with the music video for the jangly and folky (and clearly Beck-influenced) “Heaven Can Wait,” working with the pop princess to cram slow motion footage of the elderly in a knife fight, games of fruit baseball, giant acorns, freaky guerilla-type creatures, astronauts with pancakes for a head, hipsters with shotguns, and a baby in a hotdog outfit into 2 minutes and 42 seconds of, “Whattttttttttttttt?”

Below, watch the “Heaven Can Wait” video — directed by Keith Schofield — then tell us what you think in the comment section.
