Beastie Boys Skateboard Designed by David LaChappelle Will Benefit Charity

A new Beastie Boys-themed skateboard designed by famed photographer David LaChappelle has gone on sale to benefit charity, as the Hollywood Reporter points out. The board features a classic photograph LaChappelle took of the Beasties in 1985 right in New York City’s Times Square. It’s all part of W Room and Boards, a program by W Hotels of New York and Stoked.org, a nonprofit that helps inner-city youth get involved in action sports.

The Beasties skateboard and four others are available for a minimum donation of $500 via W Hotels. “I had a lot of help growing up with programs that helped me outside of school so it’s great to have a chance to give back,” LaChappelle told THR. “What can be better than having my first published photo end up in the bottom of a skateboard and help raise money for the Room and Boards program.”

It’s not the first Beasties-related skateboard to benefit charity in the past year. Last November, skateboards signed and dated by the late Adam “MCA” Yauch went up for auction. Part of a Tony Hawk Foundation-led fund-raising efforts, the Yauch-inked skateboard raised money toward helping a New York City skatepark.
