Basement Jaxx Tease First Album in Five Years With House Jam ‘Unicorn’

Basement Jaxx, "Unicorn"

Basement Jaxx make their welcome, dancefloor-pleasing return with new track “Unicorn,” streaming below. The jubilantly pulsating house track — with female vocals insisting you “jump in,” because there’s a “good vibration,” and “it’s gonna be off the hook” — fits in within the dance/pop of Disclosure and the like without exactly being of them. It’s from an upcoming album by the U.K. duo; a title and release date have yet to be announced, but the album would be Basement Jaxx’s first since 2009’s Scars (which propitiously showcased Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes) and Zephyr. It follows last year’s tropical-flavored, thus-far non-LP “Back 2 the Wild,” “What a Difference Your Love Makes,” and “Mermaid of Salinas.”  The “cosmic situation,” as “Unicorn” puts it, has just improved.
