Last month, it was announced that some cruel person would be adapting National Lampoon's classic frat flick Animal House as a Broadway musical. To make matters more confusing, Barenaked Ladies will be writing its soundtrack. The band's frontman Ed Robertson has explained how a band whose Canadian roots don't exactly fit the all-American collegiate boozefest bill could handle such a feat.

According to Vulture, the band, which has already written 11 "really fun, stupid songs" that Robertson can't sing to his children for the musical, got all their experience not from from being in frats, but from being a frat-rock band: "We have frats in Canada at our universities, but it’s not the same," admitted Robertson. "It’s such a part of the culture here, and you're right, it’s something that we're not familiar with. But I don’t know if you know this, but I'm in a rock band, and we toured all those American universities and played at those rush week parties in the early '90s, all over New England [in places] like Dartmouth College, where the whole movie’s based on." He goes on to casually mention that they played on lawns with A Tribe Called Quest too, so you know they're legit. Toga on, sir.
