It's safe to say that this year's BottleRock festival in Napa had one of the most diverse lineups of the season so far. Over the course of three days, the event hosted acts that ranged from the Cure to LL Cool J to SPIN cover star Eric Church, all performing amidst the sunny, breezy vistas of the valley's rolling vineyards. Needless to say, we were there with cameras in hand to capture the action both on stage and off. After a quick golf-cart ride with No Age, we caught up with caught up with Austin psych-rockers and Bottle Rock performers the Black Angels for a backstage hang, where the band's lead singer Alex Maas and guitarist Christian Bland gave SPIN a look into the glamorous life of their touring band. (That is, one where band-whippings are a pre-show ritual.)
