The Autumn Defense — John Stirratt, bassist for Wilco and formerly for alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo, and Pat Sansone — sent waves of ’60s and ’70s-era indie-folk to cradle the attentive crowd at the Parish. Whether the songs they rollicked through were twelve-string folk ballads along the lines of Cat Stevens or smoky nightclub piano serenades like “City Bells” (off this year’s eponymous release), the tracks were all as sweet and warm as a sunset.
