Thom Yorke’s Ponytail Dance Hints Atoms for Peace Will Play Radiohead Songs on Tour

Atoms for Peace Radiohead 'Paperbag Writer' Thom Yorke Dance

Oh how Thom Yorke likes to tease. Earlier this month he gave us a mere 90 seconds of the ever-arresting “Karma Police.” And with his DJing pal Nigel Godrich, he’s been slowly dropping clip after clip of the duo’s groove-steeped March set at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge. Now that their Atoms for Peace project is getting ready to hit the road in earnest, beginning with a July 6 gig in Paris, Yorke and the band are sharing the tiniest snippets from their rehearsal sessions. On Monday (May 27), they shared a brief video of Flea goofing around and the next day we got 20 seconds of Yorke improvising with a pedal connected to Flea’s bass. Two more clips followed on Wednesday (below) and Thursday (above), making for a full 52 seconds of Yorke, Godrich, Flea, Joey Waronker, and Mauro Refosco working on a cover (kinda) of Radiohead’s “Paperbag Writer,” a B-side from 2003’s Hail to the Thief. It’s certainly good news for fans hoping to experience some of the more famous band’s works, but what bodes better still are Yorke’s badass dance moves, which, as one YouTube commenter notes, beg to become the stuff of GIF legend.
