Canadian darlings the Arcade Fire have enough empathy to fill a hockey stadium: Songs off the Fire’s widely acclaimed first album Funeral, were elegies to dead family members, and according to NME.com, the Arcade Fire’s second album will be similarly downtrodden. The Arcade Fire’s sophomore album will deal with the devastating aftermath of last December’s Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. Win Butler, the warble-voiced lead singer of the Arcade Fire told NME, “I mean it’s kind of fucked up if it [that kind of tragedy] doesn’t [affect you]…Everything has some impact, if you’re human.” Don’t expect the new album to hit stores anytime soon; Butler and co. are just getting used to being in the studio again. “The arrangement process is really drawn out and really collaborative…so we’re setting up the studio and remembering how to play our instruments.” The recording of the new LP will take place partially in a church in the Arcade Fire’s native Quebec.
