Anna Calvi Plots Scary, Thrilling ‘One Breath’ Album for Fall Release

anna calvi, one breath, second album

London-based singer-songwriter Anna Calvi will return this fall with her sophomore studio album, One Breath. Calvi’s follow-up to her 2011 self-titled debut will arrive on October 7 in the U.K. and October 8 in the U.S. via Domino.

Described as “bold and confident” by the record label, One Breath was written throughout the course of a year and recorded over a span of several weeks. Producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, the Walkmen, the Mountain Goats) helmed the sessions in France’s Blackbox Studio and the mixing was finished in Dallas, Texas.

According to an official announcement, One Breath is a “more personal record” than its smoldering predecessor, the Mercury- and Brit-nominated Anna Calvi. In a statement, Calvi said, “One Breath is the moment before you’ve got to open yourself up, and it’s about how terrifying that is. It’s scary and it’s thrilling. It’s also full of hope, because whatever has to happen hasn’t happened yet.”

The art-rock warrior hasn’t shared any tracks from the upcoming effort yet, but she did drop a teaser trailer featuring a minute-long snippet of music that’s light on lyrics but heavy on dramatic strings and vocalizing. Watch it below.

One Breath will come in digital, vinyl, and CD formats. A special edition wax version will also be up for grabs — that version comes with a limited edition print and a bonus 7-inch that features two exclusive songs, “Endless World” and “1970s Wind.” Pre-orders are currently available through Domino. The first 500 CDs and special edition LPs pre-ordered will be signed by Calvi herself. Scroll down for the One Breath track list, followed by fast-approaching tour dates.
