American Music Awards 2013: See Miley Cyrus’ Space Cat, Lady Gaga and R. Kelly’s JFK Tribute, More

The American Music Awards loosened up a bit last night (November 24). Last year’s AMAs performances were utterly predictable, and the 2013 AMAs winners list wasn’t exactly worthy of the old Taylor Swift surprised face — yup: Swift, Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and the gang. But the night’s live performers at least injected the proceedings with a healthy dose of weirdness.

That’s Miley Cyrus, above, singing her Bangerz ballad “Wrecking Ball” backed by visuals depicting a cat in outer space. Lady Gaga and R. Kelly, fresh off of miming crazy sex on Saturday Night Live, again delivered their ARTPOP duet “Do What U Want,” this time in a bizarre John F. Kennedy/Marilyn Monroe/Bill Clinton homage/sendup/plea-for-attention (below).

Also scroll down for performances from Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, and TLC with Lil Mama. (For even more, including One Direction, Pitbull and Ke$ha, Christina Aguilera and a Great Big World, Jennifer Lopez, and Imagine Dragons, visit Idolator. )
