American Idol’s Hicks Inks Record Deal

The Soul Man has signed a record deal with Arista Records, home to fellow Idol alumni like Kelly Clarkson. His first single arrives in stores June 13.

Just a week after being crowned the fifth American Idol, Taylor Hicks, has signed a record deal with Idol creator Simon Fuller’s 19 Recordings and Arista Records. The 29-year-old Idol winner joins fellow Idols like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Fantasia in signing with the SonyBMG imprint. Hicks’ debut single, “Do I Make You Proud,” will be released June 13, with a full album expected later this year. The singer’s rendition of the Doobie Brothers’ “Takin’ It to the Streets” will be included on American Idol Season 5 Encores, which will comes out June 13 as well.
