Amanda Palmer Shoots Tegan & Sara Video

Amanda Palmer, Tegan and Sara

Amanda Palmer and Tegan and Sara really heart each other -- and an email we received this morning directly from the ex-Dresden Dolls singer/pianist offers new evidence.

Palmer's made her very own music video for Tegan and Sara's current single, "Hell," off the currently-featured-in-SPIN twin sisters' excellent new album, Sainthood. Watch it below!

In the clip -- directed by Michael Pope -- Palmer dons headphones to listen to "Hell" on her iPod, heads out of her apartment (but not before taping a photo of T&S to her front door, with a red heart drawn around Sara's face), and lip-syncs the tune as she gallops through New York City's Union Square, engaging passers by with intense stares, ballet-style dance moves, and the song's very direct chorus: "I know you feel it too / These words get overused."

This isn't the first "love letter" we've seen Palmer shoot towards the Quin sisters. In June, Palmer covered the duo's somber "Dark Come Soon," off 2007's The Con at an installment of SPIN's Liner Notes series, where musicians and authors take the stage together. She told the audience that it was a little ode to Tegan, who performed with Augusten Burroughs at our inaugural Liner Notes event. Watch that video below, too!

In February, Palmer also covered The Con's "Like O, Like H" onstage in London.

Tegan, meanwhile, contributed a photo to Palmer's 2009 book, Who Killed Amanda Palmer.

When we asked Palmer to give us a little more insight into the clip, she responded simply: "Images speak louder than words," and told us that Sara had seen the video and "was grinning the whole time."

We're not sure we get the joke -- and perhaps we're just unwitting cogs in the world domination plans of these three media-savvy women -- but the video is a fun watch all by itself. Check it out:

Who is that sinister looking man in the corner of the bottom video? Why does the darkness envelope him so intimately?

Anyone notice her partner Neil Gaiman in the background on the second video? (He wrote Sandman, Coraline, Beowulf, Stardust etc)

great video! I only wish she had come to the eastside of vancouver to shoot it, but I think the message of the song still shines through. good job!

Yeah, I'm a casual listener of her stuff, mild fan of the Dresden Dolls, but I think people are taking this a liiiittle too seriously. I think she's well aware that she's not making a profound impact with this video. I think it's simply a viral video that can be used to market herself and Tegan and Sarah's song. Nothing really crazy and out of the ordinary.

Ha. Really? People are arguing over the quality of this video and complaining about amanda palmers appearance? Makes me sad that there are Tegan and Sara fans out there that are so shallow and pretentious. This video is so much fun. Amanda Palmer has got some balls! Going up to random people and singing in their faces. Awesome. I think it's great that someone with some status and who is in the music industry would take time out to make a video for someone else in the music industry. That's love and dedication right there. This has inspired me to record myself running through the streets whilst singing a Tegan and Sara song just for the "hell" of it. Of course, it would never make it onto Spin.com.

Why can't there be one place where you people don't argue?
It's not meant to be a professional video for "Hell". The Tegan and Sara video for the single can be found on their website www.teganandsara.com. Palmer just did it as a joke for them. Friends tend to do funny stunts, make each other laugh, say hi to each other in creative ways, etc. Please try and be a bit open minded.

Seriously? This looks like something a 13 year old "fan" with no real creativity whatsoever would come up with. I get that she's "known" for her drawn-on squiggly eyebrows (and not much else) but they look retarded. Finally, you'd think someone who's in a band would be able to look at least mildly convincing when they lip-sync but I guess not. She should leave the Tegan and Sara videos to them.

My favourite part was when AFP was standing in the middle of the square looking up at the sky and that old lady was really freaked out because she couldn't figure out what she was looking at.
Also, props the the guy who went with her.

If Amanda Palmer had come up to ME on the streets singing 'I know u feel it tooooo...' I wouldn't be wierded out like all these ppl, I'd just join in: 'these words get overused, when we get up and over it and over them...' Awesome AFP! Awesome T&S!

i thought this video was great fun, very creative, and incredibly passionate. not to mention that's exactly the kind of thing i feel like doing (well, besides the semi-creepy skyward staring, haha) when i'm walking down the street listening to my favorite tunes. i say bravo!

@barfy, stfu. Simpe as that.
Amanda did it just to show how much she loves Tegan & Sara.
It wasn't meant to be deep, really mean anything, and the what not.
That's not there actual video; and have you ever even seen a Tegan And Sara video? They don't attract goths, well, maybe some, but they're indie, dumbass.

YAY new tegan and sara vid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12.03.09 8:15 PM

Wow the whole $5 went into this then.

I've seen more professional work come out of a high school cookery mid-term. Sure the song is ok, but piggybacking it on the back of "So painfully Boston Bohemia it hurts" singer Palmer don't make it a good video.
Maybe Tegan and sara should make their own music vid using some scotch tape and a sugar-smacks box. They'd get more respect from non-goths.
