Album Preview: Sonic Youth's 'The Eternal'
News
Kudos to Newsweek's Pop Vox blog for bringing us the first music from Sonic Youth's upcoming album, The Eternal, three months in advance of its June 9 release. At Newsweek's request, the band edited together a two-and-a-half-minut sonic "melange" of the record's songs -- check it out below!
The Eternal is Sonic Youth's debut album for New York indie label Matador. Recorded in November and December with producer John Agnello at the band's Hoboken, NJ, studio, the album features a few firsts for Sonic Youth: Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, and Lee Ranaldo share vocals on several songs, and Pavement bassist Mark Ibold, who has been part of Sonic Youth's touring band for years, makes his studio debut.

Fans who pre-oder The Eternal on LP or CD will receive a digital download of The Eternal on April 28, and later (via mail or local record store), a bonus limited edition live LP of the band's July 4, 2008, show at New York City's Battery Park, which will contain an exclusive poster.

This sounds pretty incredible, especially with the concentrated guitar and vocal parts- can't wait to get it early via Matador!
