Afropunk 2014 Lineup: D’Angelo, Body Count, Shabazz Palaces, More

Afropunk Festival D'Angelo Body Count, Trash Talk, Shabazz Palaces, The Internet

The Afropunk Festival will come to Brooklyn once again this year, running August 23 – 24 at Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene. And as always, the lineup is inspired: D’Angelo, Body Count, Shabazz Palaces, Trash Talk, Lianna La Havas, SZA, and the Internet are on top. Also featured: Clipping., Meshell Ndegeocello, Valerie June, and Fishbone, with DJ sets by DJ Slink, THEEsatisfaction, and A Tribe Called Red. More acts have yet to be announced; peep the line-up here

Not only is the festival free to all (with the option of a donation for a Fast Pass), the organizers are spreading some real PLUR, starting with a press release decreeing: “NO: SEXISM, RACISM, ABLEISM, HOMOPHOBIA, FATPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA or GENERAL HATEFULLNESS ALLOWED. YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.”

Ice-T shared his thoughts on his own band’s misogynistic dabblings via a SPIN Q&A regarding the return of Body Count, who recently released a song called “Bitch in the Pit,”. That’s a tribute, of course, to the lady-punks who hold it down in mosh zone.
