Above, Beastie Boys OG Ad-Rock gives more than your friendly nod, wink, and co-sign to New York rap avant-guardians Ratking — the brass-monkey enthusiast and East Coast icon tries his hand at producing the trio's sound. "Canal (Ad-Rock Remix)" remodels the original beat heard on the group's backpack-resurrecting debut album, So It GoesTrue to Ratking's signature off-kilter adrenaline-fueled noise, Ad-Rock emerges with a wooly, sinister track held down by a slinking upright bass-line. The low end skulk gives the flows from these hungry spitters a more classically in-the-pocket feel, but the takeaway is still gritty, dark, and musical.
