The Coast Guard has closed down the New York waterways and as a result we won't be sailing on Saturday night. We have RESCHEDULED the party for SUNDAY AFTERNOON. Boarding begins at 2 pm and we'll sail from 3 until 6 pm.
If you've already bought tickets you should have received instructions on how to obtain refunds if you cannot make it to the party on Sunday. For refunds, please email info@ticketweb.com, or call 1-866-777-8932.
Hopefully you'll all be able to make it as its going to be a wild afternoon with a very special set from GILDAS + MASAYA from Kitsune Paris.
Added bonus, we'll get to cruise right by the WATERFALLS!
The party Sunday is rain or shine. Advanced tickets available here.
It seems blind optimism isn't the way to go for Saturday. Here's something I strongly recommend that's going on indoors at Santos. New York's own DJ Spun will be there with special guest DJ Kaos from Berlin. Kaos is great. I picked up his album Hello Stranger when it came out back in 2005 just for the track "Lessons In Love" during the height of an obsession with Erlend Oye (who does guest vocals on the track) and wound up really liking the entire thing. It's funky and disco-ey in a modern, updated way and his live sets are the same...occasionally throwing back a bit more. Regardless of what he plays he's going to leave you wanting to do it at the disco (sound familiar?).
The party is upstairs and it's $5.

Hopefully by Sunday (9/7) any rain will have subsided because there's more going on outside:

No Ordinary Monkey is happening at Grand Ferry Park in Williamsburg. Free from 2pm - 9pm.
And as mentioned above, the People Don't Dance No More boat party has been moved to Sunday.
A quick FYI about some stuff happening early next week:
Monday - Danny Krivit is at the Hudson and Francois K is at Cielo.
And...not-dance related - If it's going to pour and you're looking for stuff to do I recommend hitting the movies and seeing "Man On Wire". I'm not posting the trailer because I think it spoils it, but basically...in 1974 a young Frenchman, Philippe Petit strung a wire between the tops of the Twin Towers and walked it. This film tells the amazing story of how he and his friends planned it out. It's an interesting, beautiful, moving story and the film was done extremely well. Check it out!

the Rapture
Hope you had fun last night. There's a lot more dance headed your way this weekend. Here's what's going on Friday (9/5) alone:
Awesome electro rockers (who I wish would play some concerts soon), the Rapture (more specifically Vito & Druzzi) come out of hiding to deejay First Fridays at the Guggenheim. The party goes from 9pm - 1am. Admission is $25 at the door or free if you're a member of the Guggenheim.
From there if you want to stay more on the electro side of things, Robot Rock has a great line-up at Le Royale this week with Treasure Fingers, AC Slater, and DJ Krames.
AC Slater - Jack Got Jacked - out Sept. 30th on Palms Out Sounds
Btw - A.C.'s got a new track, "Jack Got Jacked" coming out on Palms Out Sounds on September 30th. Check it out on his myspace, and also check out Jack Beats' great remix of it (which is also going to be released along with the original on the 30th)here.
Free with RSVP to list@gbh.tv with your name and number of guests. When you arrive, ask for the GBH guest list.
Friday is also the debut of a new FREE weekly party by Nick Catchdubs, DJ Ayres, and Jubilee at Public Assembly called Flashing Lights:Strictly electronic club music, no bullsh!t - house, disco, techno, rave and very special guests each week, including our friend KLEVER from ATL (download his "Ski Mask Way" mix at the top of this post) who will be kicking off the inaugural edition!
In addition to throwing parties Nick has been busy mixing things up lately. Download the Radio Friendly Unit Shifter mix he did with Mr. Ducker for NY-based streetwear company, Mishka, at the top of this post:My good friend Mr. Ducker isn't a DJ, but he always wanted to make an ultimate '90s tape, something that brought a mixshow vibe to alt nation sounds. When he asked me to get down with his dream and collaborate, we delved deep into our middle and high school record collections (and used CD bargain bins) and brainstormed new ways to present all the alternative music we grew up on. We were inspired by DJ Spinbad's impossibly fun '80s pop mixes: big hits next to unexpected favorites with lots of movie dialogue and interludes for jokes, all smashed up in a dance party megamixxx. Picking from hundreds of beloved Buzz Bin jams was easier said than done (sorry Superdrag, you'll make Vol. 2!), but with the Mishka crew's annual trip to Magic in Las Vegas giving us an actual deadline, we finally finished this badmotorfinger as a giveaway CD for their new season. Even with double digit-old tunes, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter feels right on time, connecting the dots between Sonic Youth breakbeats, weeded Lollapalooza rap, gloriously fuzzed-out one hit wonders and much more. No irony, no empty nostalgia, just a lot of music we love that shaped what we do today. They used to play King Missile on the radio! In America! Download and enjoy. - Nick Catchdubs
Radio Friendly Unit Shifter Tracklisting:
1. L7 - Pretend We're Dead
2. Sonic Youth - 100%

Doors 10pm. $5 before midnight, $10 after.
Don't bother stopping...before you know it you'll be back out dancing again (hopefully in the sunshine) Saturday & Sunday - posts are on their way!

Crom (via Vice)
Instead of going on and on about Crom, who are playing late tonight at Cake Shop with Villains (doors at 12AM), I figure I will let Crom's guitarist Phil Vera (ex-16 and Despise You) try and persuade you:VICE: Let's try a fill in the blank, it's easier. For the unassociated: Crom is a ________ band. We sound like ______.
Crom: Crom is a shitty band. We sound like garbage.
....In other words, the average person at a Crom show is...
Fat kids, the associated press, train-jumping crusties, nothing worth fucking, and the spirit of beerwolf.
Dude, come on.
I know this sounds like a joke, but it's totally fucking true.OK, maybe that didn't work.... but imagine if Girl Talk decided to splice together some of the greatest metal riffs of all time, add in some sludge-grind of his own (thats a fun thought), and interweave the whole thing with Conan The Barbarian samples.... thats kinda what you would get with Crom.
Yes, I just mentioned Crom and Girl Talk in the same sentence.
Crom's sample-heavy metal assault is scheduled for a live WFMU "sesh" before skipping around the east coast and finally to Rockstar Bar in Brooklyn on Sept 13th (the same day as Lightning Bolt & Krallice). All dates below...

Johnny Marr as a Modest Mouse member (more by Ryan Muir)

The band had already revealed that they will record a full album in early 2009, but made the single revelation while speaking to NME.COM at the Leeds Festival on Friday (August 22).

No I've never heard of a bible officer
"Acid Tongue" (that MP3 up there) is the debut track off the new Jenny Lewis album with the same name. Acid Tongue is out September 23rd via Warner Brothers. I can't tell who the backup singers are on the track, but if we were going to guesss, we have Johnathan Rice, Farmer Dave Scher, Jason Boesel, Jason Lader, M Ward, Chris Robinson, Benji Hughes, Zooey Deschanel, and Vanessa Corbala to choose from. I would have added Elvis Costello to that list, but we already know his track is called "Carpetbaggers". The cover art would make Albert Hofmann proud. You can see it above. The track listing can be viewed below.
Tickets may still be on sale for the show Jenny Lewis is playing at the Apollo Theater on October 4th, and tickets just went on sale for a show she added one day later in New Haven, CT. All tour dates below...

MORNE (members of Grief)
Influential doomers Grief are back from the dead! This time, the band have lined up a show in Baltimore (@ The Nowarehouse on 10/24) and Philly (@ The Khyber Pass on 10/25 with Black Cobra) in preparation for a European tour with the mighty Trap Them (European tour dates forthcoming). Meanwhile, guitarist/vocalist Jeff Hayward (formerly of the equally menacing Disrupt) is touring with his new band, the oh-so-crusty Morne, who are poised to attack the east coast and as far as Minneapolis during a ten-city tour (dates below) including one date at Cake Shop on Sept 28th with Attake, Cop On Fire, and Lost Cause. Morne will be promoting their recently released demo (out now) and the band was kind enough to drop a taste here! Check out "Machine" downloadable above, and check them out on tour.
Earth have added a few shows including a date at Columbia University (10/17), another at Wesleyan University (10/18), and a date at Union Pool (10/14), in addition to the previously announced date at the Knitting Factory with Arbouretum (10/19, tickets here).
Pelican announced a show at the Bowery Ballroom on 11/2 and some other tour dates.
From The Nursery Records, current home of locals Orphan, will drop 12" of Melvins tracks recorded during the Nude With Boots sessions. Look for it hopefully by the end of this year.
Jarboe, Dillinger Escape Plan, Hammers of Misfortune, Nachtmystium, Hellshock, Landmine Marathon and more below...
Hey Colossus is currently working on a follow up to Happy Birthday, in addition to their upcoming split 7" with Tractor. For the unfamiliar, these Londoners play a ultra-heavy experimental sludge-doom that is as comfortable with the thunder as it is with the Their latest testament to discontent, Happy Birthday is on Riot Season (pick it up here), and the band have hooked us up with "Tight Collar" available for download above!
Hey Colossus - I Am The Chiswick Strangler LIVE
Hammers Of Misfortune have posted a pair of new MP3s, one from each of their upcoming albums (Fields / Church Of Broken Glass) for Profound Lore / 20 Buck Spin. Check 'em out and download above!
Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan on the rumored departure of new drummer Gil Sharone:"He didn't leave and we didn't kick him out. He will be busy, though, working with his other band (Stolen Babies) a lot over the next year, so I am talking to other dudes both for Dillinger possibilities and just for me to play with on other creative projects. We still may be touring and writing with Gil, though. Kinda in the air. No big drama though or anything."So, I guess that means maybe he isn't not out of the band, perhaps? Reportedly dummers Marco Minneman (Ephel Duath, Necrophagist) and Raanen Bozzio have been named as possible replacements, should one be needed.
The scariest (Jarboe) photo ever?
As we reported back in March, Jarboe has an album on the way with co-conspirators Attila Csihar, Phil Anselmo, Josh Graham, and host of others. Mahakali, named after the mythical Indian goddess of death and destruction, is due on Oct 14th via The End. Check out the cover art here and scoot on over to The End's myspace to sample "The House Of Void". Color me stizoked.
Bongzilla (with Dixie Dave Collins of Weedeater and ex-Buzzov*en & Sourvein fame) have reformed to play a one off gig in Madison, Wisconsin on 9/20 at the Forward Festival with fellow reformed Madison-ians Killdozer. (Thanks Bessie!)
Landmine Marathon's cover Art for Rusted Eyes Awake. The vinyl for the Landmine Marathon / Scarecrow split drops next week.
Pouring salt into an gaping wound, Nachmystium announced that they are also on board for the Chicago Nifelheim date. The Nifelheim show precedes their appearances with Opeth and High On Fire, as well as newly announced dates with Wolves In The Throne Room. Wolves In The Throne Room is currently on the hunt for a bassist. Will Lindsay of WITTR's other band, Middian, has dissolved but his Middian bandmate Mike Scheidt has reunited with Yob.
If you missed the mighty Harvey Milk when they played Europa and the Knitting Factory, you may be in luck. A little birdie told me that "da Milk" are scheduling another date in the five boroughs before the end of the year.
Saviours have added a new guitarist, Sonny Reinhardt of Watch Them Die. The band is currently working on their follow-up to Into Abbadon, due in 2009. Check out video of a recent set they did at Amoeba Music.
Finnish black metallers Horna have announced the Blood Fire Death Tour (sounds tempting so far!) of the US with Blood Stained Dusk and Azrael. So far none of the venues have been booked, so view this as a tenative schedule (I'll report back the fo' real sched when it happens) but their itinerary includes on date in NYC on 11/16. We'll keep you posted. Another band with a currently tentative tour schedule, Today is The Day, have announced a string of tour dates, including NYC on Nov 5th. Keep your schedule clear.
ASRA have lined up a show with fellow local grinders Dissasociate, Defeatist and Baltimore's Triac at ABC No Rio on Nov 15.
Cover Art for Cynic's new record, Traced In Air
If you missed it, Grails have a new album on the way. Check out "Reincarnation Blues" available for download above!
Speaking of Atakke, the band will hit the Knitting Factory on Nov 2nd supporting thrashy crusters Hellshock. Tickets are on sale. November 2nd marks five years since Hellshock swung through the tri-state, and the band have tacked on a few additional east coast dates as well. Full tour schedule below, check out the flyer for the show here.
Metallica's "The Day That Never Comes" Music
Metallica tickets are currently on presale for their upcoming shows.
PUNISHMENT DUE:
Toxic Holocaust - An Overdose Of Death: If you can get past some of the ridiculous lyrics, this is quite possibly the best of the new wave of thrash records to drop this year.
Sigh - A Tribute To Venom: If you are a fan of either Venom or Sigh, this limited edition EP is worth a look just for the reimagination of the classic Venom tracks. More interesting than your average covers record.
Khold - Hundre Ar Gammal: Groovy Celtic-Frost style black metal. My only complaint is the vocal levels seem too high in the mix (might be less of a complaint if I could understand Norwegian).
NEWS BLAST (BEATS):
- The Red Chord gave guitarist Mike Keller the boot.
- Misery Index are streaming a second track, "Ghosts of Catalonia", from their upcoming Traitors.
- The new Across Tundras disc has been delayed until Oct 8th due to "circumstances out of our control".

- Krallice are playing with Lightning Bolt and (the recently added) Growing.
- Decrepit Birth have scheduled a single date with The Faceless, Abigail Williams, Neuraxis, and Veil of Maya at the Blender Theater on on Oct 27th. Tickets are on sale.
