Next month, Palm will follow up their killer 2015 full-length debut, the dense and dizzying Trading Basics, with a new EP called Shadow Expert. We’ve already heard “Walkie Talkie,” and today, they release the title track, a twinkling two-minute math-pop song with lead vocals from guitarist Eve Alpert. “Shadow Expert” has plenty of Palm’s favored asymmetrical rhythms, but is a little mellower than we’ve come to expect from a band that’s as adept with jarring noise blasts as it is with sticky melodies–maybe the first Palm song that you could play in a room full of Real Estate fans without raising an eyebrow.
