New Music: Teengirl Fantasy Return With “Star-rise,” Announce New Album 8AM

It’s been five years since we last heard from Teengirl Fantasy, the nom-de-plume of duo Logan Takahashi and Nick Weiss. Today, the synth-obsessed pair released the song and visual for “Star-rise,” the first cut from their new record, 8AM, which drops March 24 on Planet Mu. Their last album, Tracer, had a handful of guests, Kelela and Panda Bear among them, but the new record hosts only one vocalist: Khalif Jones, who until recently rapped under the name Le1f.

Per a press release, 8AM is a mostly instrumental collection of fractured dance, a logical next step from their breakthrough first record, 7AM.:

8AM is music that replicates that headspace when you’ve seen the sun come up, but sleep is still way off. It’s music of the in-between time, between tonight and tomorrow, when you’re not ready to let the feeling of right here and right now go. Your body is spent, but your spirit holds on to the memory. A new energy or a different route.”
