The Rock’s R-Rated Baywatch Reboot Is Going to Be Very Funny

The pitch for the Baywatch reboot must’ve been very simple. “We’ve got the Rock, some women in bikinis. Uh, and also jokes? We’re going to be so rich!”

However it went, the first trailer for the R-rated enterprise looks charming in the same way 21 Jump Street was charming–era-dated TV franchises ready for the post-modern movie treatment. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays a veteran lifeguard of the Baywatch unit, which is given new life with the arrival of the mega-hot, reasonably funny Zac Efron. There are some murders, some gags about attractive women running in slo-mo, a Notorious B.I.G. song playing in the background, and one very good joke about race.

Most importantly, though, there’s The Rock, who has become the go-to guy to rejuvenate any action movie brand. Along with Baywatch, he’s got the upcoming Jumanji reboot, and his recently successful stint with the Fast and the Furious franchise. Surely, he’ll star in a Transformers sequel at some point. Watch the trailer for the reboot below.
