The Holy Motors Director Is Making a Movie With New Music from Sparks and a Possible Rihanna Appearance

Fans of Holy Motors filmmaker Leos Carax, rejoice: The mysterious French director is back with a new movie, and it looks completely insane. Variety reports that Carax has secured a budget and cast for his English language debut, Annette. It is supposedly a “music-filled drama” (not suprising for a Carax movie), and will star (!) Adam Driver and (!) Rooney Mara. It sounds a bit like a modern update of his 1991 amour fou drama The Lovers Under the Bridge: Producer Gregoire Melin described “Annette” to Variety as dealing with “the rise and fall of an intense love story.”

But here’s the icing on the cake for music fans: Rihanna is “rumored” to have a part in the movie. The soundtrack also boasts new originals from Sparks—yes, as in the iconic Mael brothers duo.

If you thought Holy Motors was bizarre, this one looks like it might up the ante.
