In 2002, Halle Berry famously became the first black woman to win an Oscar for Best Actress. How she got the honor became one of the many questions on Jadakiss’ classic “Why?”: “Why Halle have to let a white man pop her to get a Oscar?” Monster’s Ball might’ve been an okay movie, but it’s largely remembered for Billy Bob Thornton and Berry’s PornHub-worthy sex scene—the cost of getting an Oscar, apparently.
Recently, Thornton was interviewed by Global Grind’s Xilla Valentine about the upcoming Bad Santa 2. Valentine brought up the Jadakiss song, which Thornton was wholly unaware of. (He was, however, aware of Ludacris’ allusion to the scene in Ameriie’s “Why Don’t We Fall In Love.”) The resulting interaction was very amusing, in that Thornton got an explainer in how his vigorous sex scene has rippled through the culture. He didn’t forget to give Berry some credit, either:
Valentine: Why did Halle win the Oscar?
Billy Bob Thonton: Why did she win it? She did a great job.
