Following the release of the exquisitely austere title track last month, Leonard Cohen’s 14th studio album You Want It Darker is now available for streaming at NPR.
“I’ve got some work to do. Take care of business,” Cohen told David Remnick in a New Yorker profile published this month. “I am ready to die. I hope it’s not too uncomfortable. That’s about it for me.” That frank reckoning with mortality is all over You Want It Darker. “I’m leaving the table / I’m out of the game / I don’t know the people / in your picture frame,” he sings on the stately “Leaving the Table.”
