Unknown Mortal Orchestra Dance Through the Desert in ‘First World Problem’ Video

Back in May, Unknown Mortal Orchestra shared a one-off track called “First World Problem.” Now, the indie-psych crew has released an artful video for the single. Directed by James Lees and choreographed by Kianí Del Valle, the clip features two dancers — a man and a woman — who depict relationship strife through movement. They push and pull each other through a dim house, then periodically wind up in a desert.

“I aimed to create a dialogue between two art forms — film and music,” said Del Valle of the vide. “I wanted the video to be a response to the band’s lyrics and musical melodies, rather than showing literally what the song is saying. I am a big fan of silent films and how unspoken language can add a second layer to speech.”
