Sometimes it feels like James Van Der Beek will spend the rest of his life trying to slough off maudlin Dawson Leery, a.k.a. the role that made his career (playing a sociopathic college student in The Rules of Attraction; the hilarious DILF khakis, etc). Fortunately, he’s really good at the jokes. This week he’s starring in a strange but entertaining “Day in the Life of Diplo” ad for the upcoming Mad Decent Block Party. Playing Diplo, Van Der Beek struts around and makes a case for why he’s just your average guy: waking up to music from a live harp, paying a guy to run his social media, fighting sword-wielding “haters,” and riding off on a white pony.
