Sugar Candy Mountain Release the Dreamy Indie-Pop Beast on ‘666’

Oakland-via-Joshua Tree outfit Sugar Candy Mountain will be releasing their sophomore album, 666, this July — about as mismatched an album and band name as you’ll see on record shelves this summer. The LP’s title track makes light of that juxtaposition, with a lush, near-narcotic indie-pop sound and a wicked sense of humor that underlines the abstract nihilism of its lyrics: “I’ve watched the battle above the clouds / It was on the TV in the gift shop / Another war with the volume turned down.” The title phrase is drawled on the chorus as a nostalgic lament, a strange serenity that Iron Maiden never could’ve imagined.

Listen to the song below, and look for 666 on People In A Position To Know as of July 8.
