Boom-bap revivalist Joey Bada$$ started the Steez Day Festival last year as a tribute to his late friend and fellow rapper Captain Steez, and yesterday its second inaugural edition was announced, going down at the Novo by Microsoft theater in Los Angeles on July 7 (last year’s was in New York at the Central Park SummerStage).
In addition to Joey himself and his Pro Era crew (CJ Fly, Nyck Caution, and Kirk Knight), performers will include Danny Brown, A$AP Mob, and Raury among others. Steez was considered to be the founder of the Pro Era crew and integral to the development of satellite acts such as festival-circuit favorites Flatbush Zombies.
