Despite the Roots pulling out of Carnegie Hall’s series of tribute concerts to David Bowie, the first one last night went on as planned. Pitchfork has collected a series of fan-shot Instagram clips and videos from the performances, which included sets from Blondie’s Debbie Harry, Pixies, the Mountain Goats, Laurie Anderson, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, and the Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne covering “Life On Mars?” atop Chewbacca.
