Former Smith Westerns frontman Cullen Omori has shared “Synthetic Romance,” the third peek at his upcoming solo debut New Misery. The track is premiering today at i-D, along with an interview where Omori describes sleeping in a storage container while recording with members of Cults and MGMT at Brooklyn’s Treefort Studios.
“As much as I loved what we did in Smith Westerns, I just felt a few of our influences were too visible,” Omori told i-D. “I wanted to explore my own influences without making this pastiche not having had the time to really absorb something. I wanted something smoother, a little more clever.”
New Romance is out March 18 from Sub Pop. Listen to the smooth, clever vibes of “Synthetic Romance” below.
