Cross Record Reflect From an Isolated Expanse in ‘Lemon’ Video

Cross Record, made up of husband-and-wife duo Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski, imbue their music with the quiet energy of their chosen locale — Dripping Springs, Texas, on the outskirts of perennial artistic hotbed Austin. Following up 2012’s debut full-length Be Good, the group released their sophomore LP Wabi Sabi in February, also their first release on new label Ba Da Bing Records.

The work is marked by its sheer vastness: textured vocals sweep over percussionist Thor Harris’ stomping drums, offset by destabilizing chords. Now, the band is premiering the video for “Lemon,” a bare-bones track spotlighting one of Wabi Sabi‘s more tranquil moments. Its lack of percussion allows Cross’ vocals to wander wistfully over isolated synth chords; mirroring this solitude, the accompanying video features differing shots of a single man, cut with washed-out images of a barren beach-side town.
