ANOHNI has just released the glittery, sorrowful lead single from her upcoming LP Hopelessness, “Drone Bomb Me,” on the BBC with Annie Mac.
“It’s a love song from the perspective of a girl in Afghanistan, say a 9-year-old girl whose family’s been killed by a drone bomb,” ANOHNI explained to Mac. “She is kind of looking up at the sky and she’s gotten herself to a place where she just wants to be killed by a drone bomb too.”
The gorgeous track’s video — due tonight and directed by Nabil and art-directed by Givency’s Riccardo Tisci — stars world-famous supermodel and sometimes Empire actress Naomi Campbell.
Hopelessness features Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke as executive producers and will be out on May 6. Hear “Drone Bomb Me” below.
