Los Angeles post-punk outfit Adult Books is nearing the release of their 11-track debut, Running from the Blows, due March 4 via Lolipop Records / Burger Records. In advance of their forthcoming work, they’re sharing a third single, the skeptical “Nihilism for Beginners.”
In the same fashion as the previously released “Casual Wrecks” and “Suburban Girlfriend,” Adult Books employ new wave patterns while channeling the Smiths and New Order (and may have even taken notes from Turnover’s newest shoegaze-y release). Driving home the title’s cynical conceit, the trio croons, “She said it never meant a thing,” repeating, “She said there’s nothing left tonight.” Whether or not they’re spiraling after their encounter, Adult Books reach a conclusion befitting its title: “We are nothing.”
