The Knocks and Cam’ron Salute Their Hometown on ‘New York City’

SPIN favorites the Knocks (whose song “Collect My Love” was one of the 101 Best Songs of 2015) have shared another new track from their long-awaited debut album, 55. The track, “New York City,” just might have a shot at entering the canon of great songs about the Big Apple. The building, quietly epic song features Cam’ron rapping about crime and 9/11, and yet it comes across as a hard-scrabbled but totally earnest love letter to the city the artists all call home. “New York hip-hop has been a quintessential point of inspiration for us throughout our career,” the Knocks told Stereogum, who premiered the track. “Our early aspirations included working with the likes of Cam’ron, so for us, this collaboration is the definition of a dream come true.” Listen to it here.
