Kurt Vile Covers Velvet Underground With Kim Gordon, Bob Dylan With Woods in New York

Ground Control Touring, the New York-based booking agency who likely handles tour arrangements for your favorite indie rock band, held a party Wednesday night celebrating their 15th birthday. If sets from the likes of Kurt Vile, Porches, Frankie Cosmos, Speedy Ortiz and more weren’t enough to make the evening special, a host of unannounced collaborations added a rarified air to the night’s proceedings. Vile, who made one of SPIN‘s 50 Best Albums of 2015, was involved in a couple of the night’s most star-studded moments. During his own set, he brought out Kim Gordon to cover the Velvet Underground’s “Sister Ray” and during a set by his pals in Woods he hopped on stage to cover Bob Dylan’s “Knocking on Heaven’s Door.”

Also during Woods’ set, Parquet Courts‘ Andrew Savage came out to perform Neil Young’s “Powderfinger.” Parquet Courts then brought out another former Sonic Youth member, Lee Ranaldo, to cover “Mote” and Waxahatchee enlisted Superchunk’s Mac MacCaughan and the Clean’s Hamish Kilgour for help during their set. The list goes on, including Perfect Pussy’s Meredith Graves joining Rainer Maria. Check out photos and videos from the night’s events below via Brooklyn Vegan.
