CHVRCHES Turn a Corny Love Poem Written By a 14-Year-Old Into a Full-Fledged Song

Radiotopia’s The Mortified Podcast has adults go digging into the closets of their childhood bedrooms to find the most embarrassing and awkward relics of their youth — love letters, diary entries, anything else that dumb kids write before they know they’re dumb — and share them with the world. It is, as the title suggests, mortifying.

The latest episode marked the start of a new segment called “The Mortified Muse,” which challenges musicians to turn these awkward writings into songs. CHVRCHES tackled the first entry, an overly saccharine love poem written by contributor Nat Miller to his crush Laurel when he was just a wee lad of 14. The lyrics are embarrassing, but the band makes it work. Give it a listen at about the 25-minute mark below. (h/t Pitchfork)

CHVRCHES have also contributed the theme song to another podcast, The Andy Greenwald Show. It’s really nothing, just a short little instrumental ditty, but you can listen to it at the top of the episode here.
